Hello. I just finished watching (500) Days of Summer. And here be my thoughts. Spoilers ahead.
At parts, it was pretty cute... sort of sad... some parts got me pretty mad.
The sequence of Tom going into a whole dance sequence on his way to work was awesome. I wish things like that could happen in real life. I mean, how awesome would that be? I seriously, seriously, seriously wish that could happen in real life. Maybe at some big event of my life, like my wedding, or something, I could get a bunch of people who've been invited to do a choreographed dance with me. It'd be hella fun, man.
Anyway... the Ikea scene looked fun too. If I'm ever in Ikea or some other furniture store with my friends, I could imagine myself doing that.
When I started the movie, I tried to guess what the ending would be, and my predictions turned out to be a lot more grim than what actually did happen. I thought, at first, Summer dies, or that she utterly breaks Tom's heart and he's just in ruins. In the middle of the movie, I started to think that Tom kills himself.
Summer getting engaged made me pretty angry though. Miss "Love Doesn't Exist and I Don't Want to be Anyone's Girlfriend" ENGAGED. WHAT IS THAT?
Oh, but I guess it's okay, because I remember thinking in the beginning of the movie, when they were being all romancey that I honestly couldn't see any chemistry between the two of them. At first, I thought it was a casting error, but, no, it makes sense.
Another thing I did in the beginning of the movie is search for foreshadowing. The only thing that caught my eye was the first kiss between Summer and Tom. There was a poster that said "Paper cuts HURT!" It's a metaphor. This entire endeavor... her breaking his heart... just a paper cut in the long run. It'll hurt, especially when you pour lemon juice on it, but it'll heal.
The ending was clever. The girl's name is Autumn. Autumn, coming after Summer.
The entire movie sort of reminded me of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. Say Charlie changed his name to Tom, and moved to LA. That's probably what his life was like. I don't know what happened with, what are their names... Sam and Patrick. I guess they left his life when they both went to college. Life moved on, he became a greeting card writer.
Okay, that's all I've got to say.
Thanks for reading.
